Hello, Dana--
I've got a two-part trip planned. With additional parts after that.
I'm planning to leave around early October of 2008, trailering my boat to San Carlos and sailing around the San Carlos-Guaymas area for a few months. Then the boat, van, and trailer will go into storage, and I will go home for a few months, returning in late February or early March to cross over to Baja and make the sail down. Current plans call for going to a place called Barras de Piaxtla, on the mainland, a pretty bay which is a panga harbor and looks like it would work out well for a small sailboat. Then down to Mazatlan, where I will decide to either continue on to Puerto Vallarta or go get the van and trailer and put the boat in dry storage (if there is any) in Mazatlan until the following fall, and THEN sail down to Puerto Vallarta.
In Puerto Vallarta, I plan to sail around the area awhile, then go get the van and trailer again, put the boat in dry storage, rent an apartment in a small community north of PV, and, with my wife, vacation there as often as we can, getting some sailing in.
And another feller I met recently is planning to do something similar, I believe. He wants to take his Contessa 26 to San Carlos in the fall of 2008, sail around the area, then over to Baja in the spring; and after that, sail wherever he cares to.
If the three boats DID get together, that would mean, among other things, that we had three of the very best small cruising boats "reconnoitering in style," as an old boat ad used to say. Contessas have been around the world, and I recently learned that two Frisco Flyers have too. If Cape Dory 25's and 25D's haven't yet.... I imagine it is just a matter of time.
Best--
Wayne
