If you plan on using the U. S. Chart #21008 Northern Golfo de California please be aware that it was based on 1873/75 soundings and lasted updated in 1966. There are inaccurate coordinates that could cost you your boat or your life. If you use GPS it is vital that you do not use it with your auto pilot and rely on it. The area near Santa Rosalia has an error of up 2 miles inland. That is two miles of rock and sand where you expect water. It stretches for a considerable distance along the shore. The Mexican government topo maps show this clearly. Sea of Cortez Cruising Charts by Gerry Cunningham are great charts for sailors. www.gerrycruise.com I have no commercial interest in this operation. I use his charts and find them to be very good. When you cruise in the Gulf of California your on your own, as there is no Mexican Coast Guard. The navy is mostly search and recovery, not rescue. Other boats are your best bet for assistance. Also boat parts are not widely available, but good mechanics are. The closest places to reliably get parts is San Diego, CA. or Phoenix, AZ. Bring spare parts you suspect may fail or that historically give you problems on your boat. Life's an adventure live it and have fun in Mexico.
