Hi,
I have been going down to Bahia De Los Angeles for several years now, but never with aboat. Last summer I bought a Potter P-19 and I am now ready to take it with me for a week around Christmas this year.
I don't plan on doing more than day sailing, but to be safe, I would like to check the weather before going out each day. There is internet access in town so I was wondering if anyone could recommend weather and info sites that would be useful to check in predicting the day.
I understand that when there are Santa Annas in CA there can be strong winds in the Sea of C. The bay is fairly protected so I am not too worried, but a forecast would be nice.
Also, does anyone know where to get tide charts for the area? The tides are not as extreme as up north on the sea, but I like to know what to expect.
I have the Jack Williams boater's guide for the Sea of C., but it is fairly old and may not be accurate. Any other suggested charts? I think that this trip I will stay west of the guardian island and out of the main channel. Just looking for some pleasant poking around.
Anyone else going to be there in the Xmas to New Years period? I would be glad to have company since I am not sure my family will be sailers. Both kids (college age) and my wife will be along, but none have sailed. My brother and I did a NOLS coastal course for a month one year ago. We sailed Drascombes from The Bay of Conception to Loreto. Great fun and good starting experience even if the other students were our kids ages. I highly recommend it.
Thanks.
John
