In Response To: Police shake downs (mordida) in San Carlos??? (Tom T. House)

I go down To San Carlos Every Other Weekend from Tucson. I am told to bring a six pack or more of Budweiser down with me to San Carlos in case I get pulled over. Apparently they love cheap American beer and it works out alot cheaper than giving them the standard 100 pesos or following them to the court to pay $50-$75. But I think it is better to pay the $10 so they can get some food for their family and supplement their ridiculous income. But it is up to you. I have never been pulled over so I am not sure which route I would take.

On the other hand, several of my employees have made the trip and been pulled over, they hand them the beer and go on their way. One person I know actually told them that they will not give the money to the police officer, but want to be taken to the court. After the Officer argued that he would have to pay alot more money at the court and it would be easier to just give the money to him, my friend declined and said I'll follow you to the court. The irritated officer just told him to go on his way and not to speed anymore. As he pulled away he saw the officer wave down another car to try again!

It is more valuable for the police to let yo go then take you to the court where they will get no money, instead they will just keeping waving people down until they get some lunch Money!
