My wife and I have driven to PV several times and probably most folks would think we're crazy but we do it like a longhaul sleeper team does it. I drive until I get tired and then my wife drives while I crawl in the back seat of our 3/4 ton, 4x4, truck and sleep. Then we switch roles. Usually, just north of Mazatlan we stop at the little truck stop where we both catch a nap. The semis around us keep their engines running and it puts me to sleep. When I get up, a hot cup of instant coffee at the little open "cafe" is just fine. We have a large ice box for water and soft drinks, munchies, sandwiches and ALWAYS take extra rolls of toilet paper as most restrooms at the stops enroute don't have any at all. We make it down in about 32 to 36 hours, depending on traffic, fog, etc. We try to bypass the really slow route to Tepic so we take the short cut through San Blas and come back in at Las Veras, I believe it is. Yes, driving at night is dangerous but of all the times we've driven down there and back, all of the accidents we've seen were in the daytime. Go figure! That's almost 20,000 miles of driving total on this one route.
