Traveling in Mexico

In Response To: Safety in sonora (Tom T House "Salsa")

I have bumming around in Mexico off and on since 1982. I've probably put over 25,000 driving Mexico highways and roads. I personally feel safer in Mexico than I do in the U.S. I've never had an incident of any kind in Mexico and only been stopped twice by the police. Once for driving on an odd day with even plates, that was $10 mordido and once for driving on expired plates (3 months) and that was a 30 day warning. In Mexico the people are friendlier and more outgoing. I drive day and night. The only places I've ever had a concern are Tiajuana, Culiacan and Mexico City. I try to be just passing through, daytime only in those places....
