I agree. Enuff of all this fancy stuff. I like my old, original built in depth sounder that you can set a depth for a loud alarm to go off. a red LED shows the depth and its visible from the cockpit. My Lowrance 320 shows depth, bottom contour, fish and with its swing out arm, it, too, is visible from the cockpit. However, I don't think its alarm is much more than a bird chirp. I seldom use them both, if ever. Just depends on circumstances. When sailing at night in unfamiliar waters, I try to stay several miles offshore. I rather sail during early dawn to dusk, though.
