Boat liability insurance required to launch

I thought this an interesting topic, that is, what boat liability insurance is required to launch at the marina??? ...and how much is enough???

It seems information on the minimum liability insurance required in Marinas is a bit sketchy.

One person stated that, so far, none of the five marinas contacted responded to the question.

Even though one may not hang out in a marina, it is probably good to be aware of the liability requirements.

It seems the marinas will not state a minimum.

Perhaps because it is up to the person to decide how much they feel is sufficient.

One person said he thought $50,000 coverage in the San Carlos Marina was enough and was accepted carte blanche with no questions asked.

Others seem to think that isn't enough.

Some think "the more the better" because there's a lot of damage a sailboat could do to a marina, even when it's not moving.

One on trip we took, while slipped in Marina San Carlos, some one crashed into our boat while we were at dinner.

It did damage to the bow, crushing it.

No note was left....

The only thing left behind was the damage to the boat.

So, the question is: How much boat liability insurance do you recommend and why?
