This might be of some interest and perhaps new information for some...considering the 4th of July is always a popular time for a Mexico road trip.

Here are some tips and updates:

Passports are NOW required for driving to Mexico!

As of June 1, 2009, you will need a Passport or Passport Card to cross back into the US from Mexico.

Acceptable ID for US Citizens crossing the border from Mexico back into the US include the following:

Passport info: http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/

Passport Card - less expensive than a passport and wallet sized: http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html

SENTRI Pass - special program designed for commuters - express lanes: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/trusted_traveler/sentri/

Children under the age of 16 may use an ordinal birth certificate instead of a passport.
