It sounds like their friends have a sailboat, thus the lack of speed to the fishing grounds. If so, what are the differences in costs to get where they are going? If fishing and returning to a home port (and costs are not important) then a power boat can't be beat (IMHO). But for cruising, something as close to 30-ft, sails and a shallow draft or retractable keel is what I want. A cat would be great, but beyond my budget. I have a 25-ft retractable keel sailboat, my son and I have a 22-ft flying bridge with a 350 Chev inboard for ocean fishing, and he (my son) also has a 27-ft pontoon for local lake fishing. We get on the pontoon and don't touch shore again for a week to 10 days. Point? Different boats for different needs. I like low-cost cruising as my long term goal - and the sailboat will requie upgrading! Can't wait
