The Trailer Sailor Gets a REFIT

by Gary "Doc" Hansen

Well, this Trailer Sailor thing just keeps getting' bigger and better. Here is what's up with the big re-fit… and I think you are gonna LOVE IT… It's an on-line E-zine with trailer sailing being the TOTAL FOCUS. It came about when Todd and I were having a meeting in this "cantina" that we go to… I was saying that all the prep for Mead Madness could fill a MAGAZINE… and he said, "Well, let's do one" and we toasted, he brought me on his crew and here it is.

How's that for getting a fix, and setting a course?

So, then we had to figure out "what it would be like" as there isn't really an on-line magazine to compare it to… hummm. We did some research and found that the Trailer Sailor messageboard has become THE NUMBER ONE SAILING FORUM on the web. We realized that the messageboard had to remain the core of the site, so our goal is to EXPAND ON IT, not to diminish it.

For a BIG CRUISE like Madness, you just can't write a few lines and expect to convey all the FUN of a week… You can't explain the 2 months of WORK getting the BOAT AND VEHICLE prepped for the trip… all the problems and the SOLUTIONS that went into pulling it off so well. To get the last detail… to tell the tale like it's SUPPOSED TO BE TOLD simply needs more space, just like I would for an ARTICLE IN A MAGAZINE… but it's here, on-line, and we ALL have those stories to be told and shared. If not a BIG CRUISE, it can be about adding some hardware to the boat, or sewing your first new jib, or even some cooking and meals that you prepared on the boat the last time in that PERFECT ANCHORAGE… it's all about SHARING WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO… WITH OTHERS WHO LIKE TO DO IT. I think that by doing that we will all improve on our trips and handy work on the boat. We want to put up articles about what we are doing OUT THERE. We want reviews of the products that real trailer sailors use on trailerable boats. We also can't forget that we have those WONDERFUL WHEELS and can take our SHOW ON THE ROAD at the drop of a hitch. We have SO MUCH to show and tell the world about what it is WE DO… and I think that they want to KNOW ABOUT IT. Sailing doesn't have to be confined to a slipped boat of mega size and cost… I have wanted to see something like this in our sport for 20 years, and now it's not only the time, but the place too. Hundreds of thousands want to see what this TRAILER SAILING is all about… now, WE can really show that to them.

All it takes is having a little fun… doing something with the boat, and sending it in. We will post them as they arrive… the E-zine is on going. When content comes in, new stories will appear. It's PURELY READERSHIP DRIVEN… so if you ever wanted to get published writing about what you love to do the most… now is the time. This will need your support.

So have some fun, take a photo or two, and let us all know WHO, WHAT, WHERE AND WHEN… Then, DO IT AGAIN.

Hope to see you all here sooooooon
