The Trailer Sailor is joining the team at SailboatOwners.com

Dear Trailer Sailors,

We're very excited about our new association with The Trailer Sailor. Over the years we've watched your community from afar and thought, "What a great idea; what a strong community." And now it is our pleasure to become custodians of your space. (Hey, do you want that wastebasket emptied?)

I suppose we should start by introducing ourselves. Bly Berken and Phil Herring started SailboatOwners.com in 1997. It began with HunterOwners.com and has grown to include CatalinaOwners.com, BeneteauOwners.net, OdayOwners.com, MacgregorOwners.com, Canvas Bay, and CruisingSpinnakers.com. The company is healthy and growing each year.

Co-founder Bly Berken grew up sailing Coronados, Newporters, C&C's, has cruised to Hawaii, down through Mexico and South America, and around the Pacific Northwest. Co-founder Phil Herring was a 4-year liveaboard on his Hunter 42, doing his cruising in the Northwest and the Caribbean. He has suffered numerous bouts of 2-footitis.

But enough about us, let's talk about you.

Your site is terrific! We want to restore the photo uploads and add a few things, but overall we see nothing broken to "fix" here. What works for us is a site you're happy with.

As for "coming attractions," you'll first see our chandlery connected to your site. It will put you a couple clicks away from custom canvas, sails, galley and cabin items, cushions, books, and many other accessories.

Soon, we'll also merge your classified ads into the SailboatOwners.com system. That will expose your ads to the users of all our other sailing sites, an additional 2,000 boat searches per day over and above what you get now. In our sailboat classified ads you can upload a photo, feature your boat on the home page, have a blind email address, and search based on numerous criteria. Our ads for gear have always been, and will remain, free of charge.

While it may seem odd to introduce commerce here, that has its benefits, too. It pays for the operation of the site as well as expansion and upgrades. It also ensures that your site will stand the test of time, something not always true with hobbyist sites.

SailboatOwners.com is a business, but a business that places a premium on community. We will work hard to preserve and grow yours.

If you have thoughts on what we should -- or shouldn't -- do with the TSBB, shoot us an email at suggestions@sailboatowners.com. Ideas, concerns, complaints, we're anxious to hear your thoughts about the site and what you'd like to see on it.

Thanks, and we look forward to getting to know you in the months ahead!
