Some of you may know my posts from the catboat forum, but I too enjoy the gaff rig. I have a Bobcat which is the plywood version of the Beetle cat and have recently become a partner in a one design raceboat popular on the Gulf Coast called a Fishboat. They are 21'long, hard-chined with a huge gaff main and set a small jib. They are lots of fun to sail and there is an active fleet of 12 boats with several more in various stages of restoration based mainly at Buccaneer Yacht Club. The boat I have now become part owner of is #2 built in 1936. I attach a photo of #25 which was built in 1948. The class originated in 1918 and was a popular boat for yacht club racing. The boats have been updated very little except where better materials were incorporated (such as dacron sails over cotton). This should be an interesting forum. I look forward to keeping up with the topics. I had a problem posting the photo.... will try again later
