Here is a link to the original brochure for the Atlantic City 24 catboat. A modern interpretation of the catboat. I sail mostly solo. I beleive catboats get a bad rap regarding a heavy helm. The key is balancing the amount of sail area with the wind velocity along with adjusting the centerboard will keep the helm very manageable. My AC 24 does have standing headroom while most don't. Lack of standing headroom is probably the biggest draw back. I sail in SW Florida. We have hundreds of square miles of water with very shallow depths. My two foot draft is a dream come true.
The work shop at the Independence Seaport Museum in Philly is worth a visit. Here is another link. http://www.phillyseaport.org/workshop/index.html
