reference, my apologies.
So, doing the conversions from metric into feet:
a. the main - luff 6477mm, leech (straight line) 6230mm, foot 2999mm (est by Jay) = luff 21.25 ft, leech (straight line, not to exceed) 20.44 ft, foot (est) 9.84 ft.
b. the jib - luff 4850mm, leech 4450mm, foot 2260mm = luff 15.91 ft, leech 14.60 ft, foot 7.41.
The PO of my boat showed me a receipt for new sails bought by *his* PO for the boat. I checked the sails out, but unfortunately didn't raise them. First time I sailed the boat I knew something was wrong, as the main didn't hoist all the way to the masthead nor did the foot even approach the end of the boom. A lesson for all - caveat emptor!
I measured my sails today, and here is what I have. Main = luff 20'1", foot 9'1"; jib = luff 15'9", foot 8'6". The main is a Rolly Tasker, the jib, unknown.
Would some of you kind souls check the foot measurement on your mains to see if Jay's estimate is correct? I seem to remember the SailRite number was just over 10' for the foot.
Meanwhile, I gotta start saving for some new sails.
