Thanks Jay. I am also confused by the exchanges on the usage. I understand they should be used exactly as you describe, and had done that on a Star for a number of years. With a little care, I think you can make most of them mechanically seal properly, e.g. be the replacement of the gasket or creative use of new gasket material, and maybe a little bending. I still would like to know what folks use to mount them to the hull. It appears that fast drying silicon caulk would be OK. Or, if it would be better to fashion new gaskets (or buy them if you can get them) for that too? I have no reference for what should be there since one of my POs had used the silicon caulk. Since I hear of gaskets that are made for mounting them toto the hull, and one person who used the silicon, I am still looking for a couple of confirmations or suggestion.
