Really gotta be carefull on a jibe in any unballasted boat, particularly round bottomed ones like 'poons . Glad you got out without any significant damage to the rig.
How'd your motor come out of it?
And off topic, nice woodwork! How'd you manage not to have any exposed screws on those seattops? Countersink and plug? My quick and dirty plywood seats made this spring are already checking, in spite of much varnish. Will likely need to redo with hardwood slats like yours if I keep the boat (am considering something easier/quicker to rig due to arthritis, and the fact we drysail).
Had my 5.2 out yesterday for an invigorating sail with my 9 y.o. son. Nice 10-15 mph breeze, boat topped out at 8mph on a reach, even with the top batten trying to pop out (gotta get my mainsail batten pockets patched up). Son was duly impressed at the boats 'echo' (his term for wake). First time in 20 years I've been out on Jordan Lake for hours and not seen a SINGLE other boat, power or sail. Maybe expensive gas is cutting down on the powerboat activity (usually 90% of the traffic on Jordan)...
Also had rivets pop/break out of the outhaul cheek block, and the boom vang bail. I'm going to have to give this old rig a complete going over; don't relish the thought of losing it!
