and we were sailing pretty fast ourselves--overtook a couple Catalina 22s to leeward once, although we weren't pointing as high (because I couldn't get the main in). According to the race results, there were 7 Catalina 22s, 8 J22s, 7 J24s, and 3 Southcoast 21s racing on our course, plus the big boats and catamarans zipping through occasionally. Put her in irons once with a big spinnaker boat bearing down on us, which was a nervous moment, but we got moving again in time. If I had any choice in the matter, I never tacked when we were on a collision course with a boat within thirty yards or so, because I was never quite confident we'd get round and get moving again in time--gotta work on those tacks. The jibes were, needless to say, also hairy, although the spinnaker stayed in its basket all afternoon.
