In Response To: Rudder Downhaul ... Simply Shocking (Gene Bragalone - #485/5.2)

Thanks to you both. I know where I will be sailing for a couple years and don't think I need to be concerned for now and will just use line. I am more concerned over the CB than the rudder anyway certainly, which sticks down farther. Tedd, thanks for the picture. First, you had shock cord on the uphaul? ... How strange? I don't see a need for that at all. I like the pintle/locking deal better for the uphaul. Don't want the rudder dragging when on the trailer heading to and from the ramp (and don't like installing the rudder when in the water, even with a safety line.) My set up is complelely different with the 2 lines, up and downhauls, on either side of the tiller. There are 2 sheaves between the Harken's frame that allow the uphaul and downhaul to lead to the rudder. This whole Harken assembly and rudder is massive for the size of the boat. I had a Star and O'day 17 where this assembly was much smaller and weighed significanly less. This whole deal, while classy looking, seems like overkill ... but sure looks nice .
