My rudder

My rudder has a static line leading to a clam cleat for the downhaul and a shock cord for the uphaul with only a moderate amount of tension on it since the foam core rudder will float up on its own when the rudder hits bottom and pulls the static line free of the clam cleat.

I have drilled a 1/8 inch hole through the rudder housing just above where the top of the rudder is when the rudder is elevated. By placing a trailer coupling safety pin through this hole with the rudder lifted it holds the rudder horizontal for launching.
