Hi Jenny, When these boats were first built I'm sure the foam helped bond the deck to the hull. After so many years I would suspect that the bond between the foam and the fiberglass parts involved (either the deck or hull) would have worked so much that the load would be almost completely carried by the hull to deck joint. I don't think your boat will suffer a major structual failure because of this, but it is something I would fix soon.

I'd also be concerned with how this situation developed. Did the boat get bumpted on that side recently? If the damaged area is near the stay attachment I'd be particularly concerned and probably wouldn't go sailing again until it was fixed.

Can you post a picture? It might be easier to make a recommendation if we got a good look at it.
