Sailing with two 70 pound dogs aboard can be a challenge. They like to play at the water's edge while I'm busy launching the boat, but underway, they seem to think this is another one of those things people do that makes no sense. Last time we were out (in early October) the wind got above 20 kts and it began to seem a bit dangerous. Not only were they in the way while I needed to make some quick responses, but at one point I was afraid the Golden's fur would get caught in the mainsheet if I had to let it out quickly. Afterward my wife and I discussed what we might have done in the event of a capsize. None of the options looked good and we both thought it would be a good idea to buy dog PFDs if we want to continue taking them with us.
If I could just teach them to trim a sail...
