(which I do, although it's a 2-gallon), and it has a line on it (which it should, although I haven't gotten round to putting one on mine), all you really have to do is attach the line to the bow eye--if the boat drifts, the bucket will assume the proper orientation. Still means a bit of extra swimming, and of course you want to make sure you're not dragging the bucket . I don't think it'd turn the boat while the mainsail is in the water, but it'd help hold you where you want to be once the boat comes up.
