Off Season’s Greetings,
We finally put #485 away for the season ... (We had to. I sent the sails off to SailCare). Since there have not been a lot of postings lately about sailing activities or questions, I thought I would share the pictures of our fairly complete 5.2 restoration. It started August 27th this year(2006 and we hit the water the first time October 23. Made it to the water 8 times in all including Thankgiving day and the day after. The "we" I am speaking of is myself and my son Jesse who did much of the work and provided most of the inspiration to hit the water this year. His tolerant wife, my tolerant wife and daughter also contributed to our endeavor. There was lots of dust, noise chemical/paint smells and vehicles having to be left/moved onto the driveway or street. Also, an endless parade of UPS and FedEx people at our door.
I have posted the pictures in 2 places, one is on our companion yahoo forum and one on my personal Picasa pages. The Picasa posting has more photos, better detail and more complete captions because the photos were much easier to upload and caption. Plus, I didn't want to burden the total photo limitation of our yahoo forum. (I will remove some of the pictures there as soon as we get close to our group limit.) I will leave the Picassa ones there permanently and update them as we finish the woodwork and other things. I am looking forward to the Sailcare results. I will post that as well.
The captions can't say it all and I didn't want to go into a long diatribes here. However, we did learn a lot and would be willing to share if anyone has questions. Please do not hesitate in asking either on the forums or via personal email. Comments would be appreciated as well.
The yahoo forum is located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Harpoonsailboats and our posting is under photos under "5.2 Restoration Project #485 is Back!"

The woodwork is not done. What is shown is temporary poly of the old woodwork. I have the wood, we just didn’t have time. The thwart is the only piece that can be salvaged. I am doing some rudder/tiller modifications that can make it easier to install and stow for us who have to trailer our Harpoon, which I will post later.
Thanks to all of you who contributed to helping me in order to make all this possible this season ... and I apologize for some of the seemingly inane questions.
