We get occasional warm days throughout the winter, and often can get a sail in in January or February (never any ice on the big lakes). So basically year round, though in summer it gets pretty hot and windless inland (central NC - 'Piedmont'), so I usually take the boat to the coast in midsummer whenever possible. Almost always some wind there.
That said, in midsummer I'd really rather be back on the stomping grounds/lakes of my youth - in the Adirondacks! I sneak up there when I can and sail with my brother in his Rhodes on Lake George. Might even try hauling the 'poon up there this summer, maybe for some island camping...
Cheers,
Neil S.
