was to dig out the wood, use brass strips from the hobby store for backing plates, solder the nuts to the strips, and fill in the remaining area with spray foam. The weak link in this was the solder, which broke on a couple of them and you couldn't get the screws out to replace the bailers without digging out the whole business. I dug it out and replaced it with epoxy, but you really need to be a bit more careful than I was on how much epoxy you put in at one go (lesson: never do epoxy work when you have dinner reservations). I didn't catch the boat on fire or anything but it cracked a bit. I am eventually going to have to replace the wood behind at least the lower gudgeon, so I'm also interested in people's thoughts on this issue.
