The PO of my boat used marine plywood for the seats, although solid wood should last longer. Keeping the woodwork covered and refinishing as needed (or a little before needed) is key. Are you talking about the chainplate that is attached under the forward edge of the seat pulling out? If so, this is definitely something that it's good to find out about before you take the boat out. Semicircular crack? Like impact damage? Is it soft? Does it look like water could get in through it? If there's nothing wrong with the boat that's going to damage the boat or you if you take it out, I'd be all for getting out on the lake .
