You should tension the forestay quite tight to minimize slack when running. At the Ocala regatta in the past two years, we have had rip roaring winds with no mast failures-unless a shroud lets go, and that would be for lack of proper maintenance. Make sure your standing rigging is in good shape & the mast will perform as designed. Don't worry--go sailing!
