I saw the Shallop and her crew in Tappahannock last weekend. What a great group of young explorers. I told them to enjoy the experience to take so long to mess about in a boat. Their voyage on Thursday night was not too fun, though. There was a violent thunderstorm that night and they got pummelled. There is no cabin, they were just sitting ducks. No Motor, just sail or oars. 12 people on a 28 ft. open boat! They finally got into the marina at Tappahannock at 2:00 am. I met them at a neighbor's cook-out they hosted for the crew. I also ran into them at a local bar Saturday night. There was Karaoke and late, toward closing time, one of the crew got up and sang "Sloop John B." Very appropriate with it's refrain of "I want to go home!" These kids have been on the water 96 days now, but have been doing prep events and all of the public exhibits since April 1. If you have a chance to see it, you should make the effort.
