Just purchased a 5.2 a few months ago and I am doing minor repairs and cleaning. While inspecting the bailers and bailer well area, I noticed small cracks in both wells, same location in both. I removed the four screws holding the inner trim piece or cover so I could inspect better. Appears there is wood liner between the inner and outer fiberglass hulls that is rotting. I also see some de-lamination of the fiberglass in the well area. I do not see any attempt in design to prevent water from reaching this wood when water is in the bailer well. No sign of epoxy applied to the wood. Obviously, I need to repair this area to create a water seal between the inner and outer fiberglass.
Does anyone have experience repairing this area? The rotted wood likely needs to be removed and replaced somehow. I am really concerned that water has leaked by this wood and could be between the hull and the topside. Does anyone know how far the wood liner runs beween the fiberglass and what is beyond the wood?
Any suggestions and comments appreciated.
