I used to use a 10' lenght yellow polypropelene line for this purpose. I even got to try it out in 54F water. A 40mph gust and a cleated jib sheet caused an early season solo capsise. I learned several things that day.
In big-air you may need to ease the jib as well the main to stay dry. When it's really windy tie every thing to the boat. Release your sheets and get on the center board asap or it will turtle. Polypropelene line really doesn't hold knots well at all. If you right your boat with a sheet cleated it will capsise on top of you.
I find the Harpoon 5.2 a great singlehander. Go it alone sometime--you may find yourself.
