In Response To: Shroud tension (Jay Levy - Indianapolis, IN 5.2 #35)

Is your mast straight? If your mast is bent, you will have different tension on each shroud. Check your mast before and after you step it. While sailing close-hauled in 8-12 knts the spar should be straight. In 16+ the upper unstayed section will deflect to leeward. If your mast is true, check the forestay to shroud measurement. Chainplates could have been misplaced or the hull has oil canned. Fix it or live with it, but it sucks when one tack is fast and the other is slow.
