In fact, it stays pretty tight. The bolt is 1/2" longer than it needs to be and I secure the wingnut with a lock washer too. No problems at all and nothing "catches" on the end of the bolt either. I also thought about the clevis pin Gene suggested but those two little balls on the end didn't seem beefy enough for me! I was afraid it might come out. Unlikely perhaps, but I wasn't willing to take a chance.
I'd NEVER use one of those for a shroud or forestay. A clevis pin with a ring-ding or cotter pin is alot cheaper than a collapsed/broken rig!
