Results of Boom Casting Repair

Here are the results from last winter, the boat has been out 3 times this year in our windy Ohio spring, so everything must be right.

Rigrite shipped the parts as soon as I hung up the phone and they arrived in two days. Replacing the casting was easy with a good sharp drill bit made for hard metal to drill out the SS rivets.

Regarding the speculation about stress on the boom during a jibe, there was plenty of evidence of that. Before putting the new casting on, I had to transfer the gooseneck fitting from the old casting to the new. The fitting was very difficult to get off as the bolt and nut were severely stripped. Looks like the boom puts lots of pressure on that nut in a jibe (and probably on the three rivets too). I used SS to replace SS. Would not consider aluminum for this application.
