Since my dreams of getting a 27 footer to stick in a slip and drink beer on have been crushed, I'm trying to be more "realistic." Especially given my nearly non-existent sailing experience.
As it turns out, there is a Harpoon 5.2 not far from me (relatively speaking), but this picture:
has me concerned. The broker has it on consignment and has been fairly forthcoming about issues thus far. That bolt that's backed out about 3/8" and the spider cracks radiating from the bolt hole are red flags for my admittedly limited marine surveying skills. I'm not sure if that's a crack or a twig/leaf stem in the center of the centerboard trunk right where the teak meets the fiberglass of the step. Zooming in, it looks like it could be either.
At any rate, is this what a rotten step looks like?
