Report: outside forum guidelines

I know it is a matter of time before I flip the boat and wanted to have the right lines ready to avoid delay and confusion. Some say to use the jib halyard and place a knot 8 feet from the end of the line. But the line is difficult to get through the suggested hole in the sidwall. I was simply going to have a separate line available that will easily go through the sidewall hole and loosely tie it to bottom of the mast so I know where it is. So what do some on you sailors have setup...

Also is it smart to sail with the ladder since it seems like it is just one thing that will get tossed and lost when the boat flips...
