Your not the only one to discover that the more you need to release the main the harder it is to do. I watch for puffs and uncleat just before the puff arrives. A quick ease and retrim helps keep the boat on its feet and pointing high. You could change to a trigger cleat. They're supposed to solve the problem of releasing the main when the boats heels and the load is high. Does anyone have atrigger cleat yet?
