- Adjust your preferences
- The preferences link on the main index page of each board allows you to change
your display options. You can change the age of messages to be displayed (for example, if
you visit the board everyday, then you may want to display only messages posted within the last day,
or even display only new messages). You can also change the visual format of the index and messages. The
default is the indented/threaded format, but you can change to a compressed or guestbook layout.
- Posting a picture
- You can enter the webaddress of an image via the Image URL field in the
post/response form. You may upload a picture to our server via the link that is just
above the Image URL field. Uploaded image files may be either .gif or .jpg, and must be less than
100k in size. Posts that contain pictures will be marked with the
icon.
- NM (no message) posts
- NM posts are messages that have a subject but no body text. Such posts are allowed if
the subject contains the whole post. It is no longer necessary to put (nm) at the end of the
subject line since the messageboard software will now automatically identify NM posts and mark them
with a
icon.
- Express yourself with smiley face icons
- Smiley face mnemonics, like :), will automatically be displayed as graphic icons. This works both in the
message text and the subject line. Here
are the smiley faces that are supported:

- Basic formatting without HTML
- The messageboard software supports basic formatting to do bold, italics, big and small text
and simple lists without HTML (these codes work only in the body of the message, not in the subject line). Most of the codes work with a start code and a stop code. In the following reference
the codes you enter are in maroon.
| bold text |
italic text |
| [big]big text[/big] |
[small]small text[/small] |
|
colored text
Supports standard HTML colors and #xxxx hex rgb values.

NOTES:
can be used without
to insert a bullet. Automatic hotlinking (see below)
is fully compatible with these formatting codes (unlike raw HTML).
- Inserting HTML into a post
- You can insert HTML directly into your posts. This should be done with care. Be sure to
close all of your tags, as open tags could make the rest of the message unreadable.
- Automatic Hotlinks
- If all you are trying
to do is put in links to other sites or pictures, you do not need to
use HTML for this, as the software will automatically detect and
hotlink URLs and email addresses. If you do use HTML in your
message, the automatic hotlinking of URLs will be disabled in any
paragraphs that contain raw HTML.
- Spellchecking your posts
- The messageboard software does not have a built in spellchecker (and if it did, the
server load from it would make it prohibitive to use). However, there are a number of
inexpensive shareware programs available that will spellcheck text in forms on the fly. My favorite
is QuickSpell by Fornada Software. Check out the demo version.
