Many thanks to a friend who recommended this site.
The Macgregor 26D's appear to be my boat of choice. Talking to an owner who has one for sale, he stated that going from trailer (all parts stowed for highway travel) to fully rigged and ready to sail is a lot of work. Nothing at all like I have been reading in the advertisements / manuals on the internet.
My expectation was to keep the boat in my aircraft hangar, and then on a good day trailer it out to the lake (Medina lake is only 15 miles away, Canyon lake about 60 miles distant) set it up for a day of sailing, then trailer it back at the end of the day. Unrealistic? Storing it out of the sun and weather really appeals to me.
My sailing experience is limited to the typical small boats (Sunfish) and also a 16 foot LoneStar day sailer (main and jib), but I love to sail.
So, the question to the group is whether I am being reasonable and go forward as planned (my wife loves the larger size and port-a-pottie idea), or should I look into the cost of a slip or dry storage at a marina and leave the mast up? Just how tough is it to set up this puppy?
I am no stranger to assembly. My airplane is a homebuilt and can also travel on a trailer. 45 minutes from trailer to taxiway.
Many thanks, Nelson Amen San Antonio, Texas
