i have a venture 21 swing keel boat. i put a new brake winch on the old board that sits athwart the benches in the cockpit. i was very carefull to line up the down tube with the edge of the winding drum, which is about 2" in diameter. i attached my new cable to the starboard side of the keel and wound my cable onto the drum. the wraps of cable around the drum increased the diameter of the drum plus cable so that now my cable touches the starboard edge of the down tube. it rubs some but should i worry about it cutting the fg tube? its only touching when the cable is wound up tight not when the keel is dropped 2 or more feet down.
