Mast rake...rule of thumb

The best bit of advice I got from this forum is on mast rake. When hanging slack, your mainsheet halyard should hang 6" back from the foot of your mast. Make sure your boat is level when doing this! This adjustment took my backstay to the last few adjustment holes.

Also, tuning a fractional rig is different from tuning a masthead rig. Sail magazine had a great article on this and there was a link but it no longer works. However, refer to this discussion: http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/tsarchives3/index.cgi/read/184714
