There are so many variables involved which are different by boat you really need to "play" with mast rake.
I said it aint' easy because it takes time to readjust everything - and then you need to sail in a variety of conditions.
One thing I found is that mast rake has far less of an effect on weather helm than you might think. So when you experiment move it 3 or 4 inches at a time...
What does have a profound effect (besides rudder downhaul - I think I've beat that one to death) is centerboard position on a 26S. Moving it back and forth through 2 feet or more has much more effect than a few inches difference on the mast.
Many people vary the amount of board to suit a particular point of sail - but on a 26S this can introduce a huge amount of "real" weatherhelm. Less board is often thought to reduce drag but often the offset tiller required to hold a course creates far more overall drag.
