Original attachement point - - from another viewpoint. Gives you an idea of where they are located on the deck.
In my humble opinion, if they were just a tad further aft (lined up with the bolt hole / pivot point) they would stay tight all the way up and add a little more security. However, maybe there is a reason you want these to slack a little as you go past 45 degrees. The side stays start to come into play as you get up past 70 degrees or so from the horizon.
