In Response To: ballast leak (Rod)

that it is actually ballast water, and not outside water coming in...best way is to color the ballast water with ink, or food coloring...next step is to find the leak source..if it is ballast water, you can fill the ballast completely full on the trailer with blocks (keeps the weight off the springs)and watch the level, and the bilges

I'll bet your leak is no failure of the ballast tank, but rather a leak from your ballast rod, or vent, also check the obvious possibilities for external leakage, such as all through-hulls, and the rudder pintles

My mac 26C leaked in copious amounts of water from the centerboard control line, and that was solved by jamming a bit of sponge in the tube when in a choppy sea

Good luck in the hunt, and unless the mac took a big hit...rest assured..a ballast leak is unlikely
