Autopilot mounting

Just bought a Simrad TP10 autopilot and looking at mounting options. Did an archive search and got some good ideas. Didn't see where anyone has mounted on top of the laz hatch. On my boat I can achieve factory reccomended geometry by mounting on laz hatch on outside edge and couple inches from the forward edge. While the hatch cover is not very thick I think good hardwood block under would be ok. Also some concern about laz hatch wanting to work port to starboard from autopilot forces. Seems like good secure latch would take care of that.
Has anyone mounted an autopilot on the laz hatch of 26C? Any thoughts pro or con would be welcome.
