In order to raise the hatch I have to lift the tiller up so I could not use the AP anyways. If I need something from the lazarette I just hit the standby button, lift the AP up and place it in the cockpit, I lift the tiller up and open the hatch and get what I want. I do not have to disconnect the wires so it stays on standby until I drop the pins back in. I also find it handy to be able to hand steer the boat with the AP just unhooked from the tiller but still just sitting on the hatch lid with the pin still in the bearing. It seems to just stay there even when heeling over, it has never came out yet. I am always amazed at how well it can steer the boat even with quite strong gusty winds, it does a better job than I can do. Bob
