As an owner of a 26d yourself, I really don't feel I am telling you anything you don't already know. Let's go the other way, if you were going to build a heavy air sailboat, capable of easy and safe sailing at, say, 35 knots, would your build up look like a 26d? Would you choose water ballast as the sole means of uprightedness? Would your standing rigging be as thin? Would you have such small,plastic cleats? I could go on. I'd call the Mac 26D a light air sailboat. Sail it in any wind you feel comfortable.....
