your gelcoat. At least it looks that way from your photo. Oftentimes when loading with a crosswind, the boat does not go onto the trailer straight. In such a case, it looks like the sides of your gelcoat are going to get 3 sets of marks each time from the PVC. Perhaps I am missing something.

In my opinion, the best side posts are the round factory tubes with PVC over them and pipe insulation over the PVC. They should extend at least a foot above the rubrail. When the boat hits them, they rotate against the rail.
