OK, I've been driving all day and have the advantage of reading this whole string in one sitting. On the other hand, I'm tired so I may be wrong here.
So here is my two cents - I think how great an idea Sumner has in designing this type of "loading guide" is getting lost in the shrapnel. Also, I think that what Chris was worried about is the tops of the uprights digging in to the gelcoat. Maybe not, but that is what I'd worry about. I would also worry that with the tops cut off straight, the right wave could drop the boat down on one giving you a vertical scratch and the same rub rail problem the P.O. of my boat had when the side of the boat came down on a piling at the dock during a storm.
Sumner, thanks for this idea and all the others. If I get into trailering frequently I'll probably do something similar.
