yes to put 'some' center board down.

I use fenders to dock.. every time. I have 2 pretty good size fenders (2 taylor made 10" diameter) and use them... I try to hit the dock on the front fender. which allows me some headway speed. they absorb the impact, and don't push the boat out very much... timing is key, in getting off.

BUT; is there a piling between the two boats? if so, suggest you run a 3 stran line to it from the dock to help guide the boat in. this is normal for docks down here.
